New Horizon Gurukul believes that when a child is exposed to various experiences, as opposed to being solely focused on being just a bookworm, grows up to excel socially, emotionally and professionally in this inter-dependent and complex world. These influences are gently introduced into the child’s perspective over a period of time through our after school activities.

After school activities ranges from Sports to Creative Arts that help develop the interpersonal skills of a child. These activities give children the impetus, in an atmosphere of constructive and healthy competition to discover individual talents, to work in collaboration and to become outstanding performers.

Inter school competitions are means to provide opportunities for shishyas to extend their personal interests and experiences and to develop both self reliance and social and cultural awareness. It enables to build a good rapport with the schools and to encourage and motivate the hidden talent of the students. We believe that this programme will form a base for the Shishyas to compete in various events at higher level.

EVERYTHING THAT IS EXCELLENT WILL COME WHEN THIS SLEEPING SOUL IS AROUSED TO SELF CONSCIOUS ACTIVITIES – Swami Vivekanand

Field trips are recognized as important moments in learning; a shared social experience that provides the opportunity for students to encounter and explore novel things in an authentic setting. Their importance is supported by professional an organization which asserts field trips can “deepen and enhance” classroom study and a quality school curriculum is one that extends beyond the walls of the classroom.

June to March is a very important period in the school academic year. Both scholastic and co scholastic activities go on with full vigor and a favourite time to conduct ‘School Annual Day Celebration’. It provides a platform for the Shishyas to showcase their talents and urges the Gurus to bring out and polish the creativity in them. An occasion for the Shishyas to step on the stage and conquer their fear of speaking and performing in front of the large gathering, School Annual Day celebrations are a great way to bring various culture into the classroom. They provide an opportunity to enhance the shishyas’ knowledge if they have been planned in a meaningful and productive manner. New Horizon Gurukul celebrates its Annual Day in alternate yearsbased on various themes. Last year NHG presented the famous classic “Wizard of Oz” as a musical extravaganza, spread over three grand days.

Gyan Mela 2016-2017

Gyan a term for “knowledge” in Indian philosophy, centers on a cognitive event which is recognized when experienced. Celebrating this zest for knowledge, New Horizon Gurukul, organized a two day Gyan Mela 2016-2017, on 3 February, 2017 and 4 February, 2017 in the school. The event saw the young enthusiastic students participating across scholastic and co-scholastic subjects, by showcasing the innovative ideas through working models, creative charts and thoughtful performances.

The centre of attraction of this GYANMELA was a ‘Dark Room’ depicting the universe in such a magical manner. It was indeed a splendid and mesmerizing experience to one and all. The dark room had everything one could see in their journey to space from galaxies to planets, constellations to zodiacs. The UV light effect added to charisma of the dark room together with the sound effect which gave each and every visitor the once in a life time opportunity of wandering into the space. This effort was well appreciated by one and all.

The exhibition was one of its kinds, as it was an eye opener on various topics. The students were applauded for putting forth a well co-ordinated and praiseworthy event by one and all who experienced the grand display of unfathomable knowledge. The famous words of Dr. A P J Kalam that , ‘Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge and knowledge makes you great”, was indeed achieved through the success and reach of the Gyan Mela.

School sports refer to athletic programs in the context of the school setting. The objective of school sports is the enrichment of the high school experience of Shishyas within the context of the educational mission of Gurukul. The objective of our Annual Sports Meet is to contribute to the overall education of all students, not athletes only. Other qualities logically follow from the educational mission: citizenship, sportsmanship, fair play, teamwork, respect, and health and welfare of all students not only during the school years but continuing into adulthood.

NEW HORIZON GURUKUL – CARNIVAL 2017 UPHAAR

Amidst performances, games, magic, and of course, food – the grand Carnival “Uphaar” was a super hit affair. The school quadrangle looked nothing short of a wonderland. The stalls ranged from that of a photo booth to magic show to a karaoke street and what not. The variety of the games and finger licking food, kept the guests and children glued to them. The unbearable heat, though made us exhausted, but could not dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the students who were managing the stalls, giving a glimpse of the future entrepreneurs.

The stage had something to look forward to at every point of time. The dance performances ranged from the Indian folk to that of salsa and tango. The skit performed by students reminded the elders of their school days and made the students relate to what they do in the class. The competitions brought out the hidden talents in the parents, who shook a leg along with their kids.

From parents to the Principal, coordinators to teachers and definitely, the students, all were in the festive spirit that brought a smile to each of our faces. And this was the smile that we wished to pass on to our less privileged friends. As it’s rightly said that:

“Giving is not just about making a donation; it is about making a difference.”

New Horizon Gurukul attempted to make a small difference to the organizations that work for the welfare of specially abled children and also of the stray animals, by donating the proceeds from all the stalls to them. Each stall was associated with a particular organization and the proceeds were handed over to the concerned organization. It not only gave a sense of happiness to the students, but also a sense of responsibility by doing their bit for the societal welfare.
