International Day of Yoga
Our school New Horizon Gurukul celebrated International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2017 in the school premises. A special demonstration was arranged for classes 6-10 in which the objectives of the world Yoga day were shared amongst the gurukulites.
They were also informed as why June 21 was selected as the day to commemorate the 6,000 year old practice.
Scientifically, June 21 is the day of the Summer Solstice, when the tilt of a planet’s axis in the northern hemisphere is most inclined toward the star that it orbits – in our case, the Earth and the Sun.
June 21 is considered the longest day of the year with the sun rising early and setting late for the northern hemisphere.
But science aside, the summer solstice is also considered an important day in Indian mythology as it marks an event that could be considered the start of Yogic science.
The Yoga team of our school with the guidance of the Yoga teachers presented a beautiful performance on stage and also exhibited the significance of Yoga in our lives.
There was a special demonstration of various asanas along with the participation of all those present for the occasion. This was aimed at inspiring young minds to incorporate Yoga into their daily routine and awaken and explore subtle energies to have better control over the mind, body and social well-being. These asanas were taught to bring about a holistic approach to health and well-being. The programme concluded with the chanting of Om Shanti Om, which infused calmness in the minds of each and every student and teacher present there on the school ground. It was indeed an enriching and a fulfilling morning for everyone.
