Spreading the joy of the ‘festival of lights’, the students and teachers of New Horizon Gurukul presented 15,000 Deepavali cards to the GOC of the Indian Army on Wednesday at the Karnataka and Kerala Sub-area Headquarters.
Accepting the cards on behalf of the army, Major General K S Nijjar, General Officer Commanding, Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, said, “We are thrilled by this wonderful gesture from the students and teachers. I will ensure that these cards reach those who are posted in difficult regions like Siachen and in the North-East.”
Student representatives from the New Horizon Educational Institutions presented cards to army officers present at the event and distributed sweets.
Decorated with paper quilling and glitter, the cards made by students of nine education institutions had notes thanking soldiers for keeping the country safe. Sakshi Puri, a class 10 student from New Horizon Gurukul, wrote “To the brave soldiers of the Indian Army, a very happy Deepavali to you” on her card. “The soldiers spend their lives protecting us. So, on this festive occasion we want to spare a thought for them,” she said.
